The United Nations’ Playing for the Planet annual report shows that games studios are becoming more serious about supporting the causes of climate change.
More than 32 game studios have now joined Playing Facilities for the UN Environment Program (UNEP) – Planet Alliance.
That studio has enabled more than 1 million trees to be planted and has connected 130 million gamers to environmental themes, according to the Alliance’s recently released annual impact report.
The report highlights the industry’s progress on decarbonization and green activation in games and where it can go. According to the report, in 2021, The Green Game Jam – which brings together the biggest names in video games across PCs, mobiles and consoles – has tripled in size, with 30 studios joining, to educate and empower millions of players to work for nature.
